Standing in my balcony at night trying to inhale some fresh cold air, I felt like I was prying into people’s private lives. I wasn’t trying to stare but I had nowhere else to look. Only multiple buildings and numerous windows around me, all glass and each with a different life scene. It was only 8 pm and some of the windows had no light, “fell asleep or went out?” I wondered. My attention diverted to the ones that had lights on. A guy cooking a meal, maybe for himself or for him and his partner who wasn’t home yet. A lady doing some chores around the house, probably the only time she got to make it look like a home. A kid on his laptop with his headphones on, most likely gaming or doing a class project. A couple setting up a candlelight dinner in their balcony, making the most of the time they get together. All ordinary people, living ordinary lives, doing human things but there is something extraordinary about this, something that can’t exactly be put into words.
